Is it me or Natural Pacific Real Calendula Energy Toner could be the prettiest toner out there? I am seriously mesmerised by the petal movements! Check out my Instagram video here to see why!
Before choosing Natural Pacific Real Calendula Energy Toner on Style Korean website, I did a little research on Calendula. Here are some main facts that I came across:
Calendula is also know by its other common name, “pot marigold”. Calendula is a genus of about 12-20 species. There are other types of marigold, including the corn, desert and marsh marigold, so it’s important not to confuse the pot marigold- Calendula Offocinalis– with the other types of marigold that may not have the same benefits.
Historically, calendula was used to treat upset stomachs, ulcers and menstrual cramps. Calendula tea is still very popular today. Calendula has been used for centuries on the skin! Here are the well known skin benefits
Protective: The natural antioxidants in calendula can help keeping the skin healthy and youthful looking.
Anti-aging: As you may be able to tell from the flower colour, calendula contains carotenoids, which are key in helping your skin look more youthful. These protect from environment stressors and can help to sooth.
Moisturising: Calendula is gentle and hydrating, so it’s great for dry and sensitive skin. It can be used under the eyes to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, and on abby skin to help sooth dry and red patches.
What is in Natural Pacific Real Calendula Energy Toner?
Natural Pacific Real Calendula Energy Toner is a calming and moisturising toner with real calendula petals. It contains 91% calendula water. Besides calendula, it also contains Allantoin which makes flaky and chapped skin smoother; Sodium Hyaluronate to retain moisture; Centella extract aka “tiger grass” which the leaves and stems contain Madecassic acid that helps relieve inflammation.
The toner is meant to minimise skin irritation, fresh cleansing and remove makeup residue.
Ingredient list: Calendula officinalis flower water(91%), Butylene Glycol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Beta-Glucan, Sodium Hyaluronate, Calendula Officinalis Flower, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis Extract, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Chrysanthellum Indicum Extract, Allantoin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Disodium EDTA
Looking at the ingredients, based on what I know Natural Pacific Real Calendula Energy Toner contains luscious botanical extracts and no alarming ingredients.
The toner is packaged in a sturdy and clear hard plastic which enables you to see the beautiful floating petals when you shake it. Despite having real petals, it doesn’t have any scent at all which I prefer. Some tiny fragments of calendula petal do get dispensed out but I don’t find it troublesome nor does it interfere with my toning process.
Anyhow, let’s find out my experience! I started using the toner on 23rd January and kept a skin diary for the following 4 weeks. A bit about my skin, I have oily skin with enlarged pores and some pitted acne scars. Periodically, I do get some spots due to hormonal fluctuations, stress level, diet changes and adverse effects from product testings (blogger problems:))
I have been using Natural Pacific Real Calendula Energy Tone twice daily after my regular cleansing routine. I’d slightly shake the bottle, soak a cotton pad with the toner and gently sweep from the centre of my face outwards and upwards. I then gently tap my skin with warm palms to aid absorption (ok I must admit I did not do this the first 7 days!). When needed, I’d soak a cotton pad with the toner and use as a sheet mask, again I’m meant to leave it on for 10 minutes but I might do around 2 or 3 minutes:)
The followings are my diary entries:
23rd Jan: End of menstrual: a few red spots remaining and some scarring. First impression of toner: soothing and refreshing. Very gentle, almost like water.
24th Jan: Very gentle, no adverse reaction. No apparent change on skin. Skin feels smooth after use.
25th to 28th: No adverse reaction, no apparent change.
30th Jan: A few spots popped up on chin. Possibly as I have been over indulging on spicy hot soup or could be due to the constant stress I was going through. Soaked cotton pads and use as sheet mask
31st Jan: Spots dried up very quick.
1st to 6th Feb: No noticeable changes to skin appearance.
7th Feb: Did a facial peel on the day. Toner seems to be more effective, skin looked more polished and smooth.
8th Feb: Skin looks calm.
9th to 16th: Been soaking up pads and used on any active spots, spots dried up quickly.
17th: Started to use the toner with the 7 Skin Method
18th to 23rd Feb: Skin feels much more hydrated, plumped and no current active spots.
The toner has very thin and liquidy texture. It is fast absorbing and does not leave any film on my skin. I love the texture on my oily skin. It is a perfect toner to use with the 7 skin method. My subsequent skincare steps go on beautifully and effortlessly. The toner feels incredibly refreshing and soothing upon application.
Verdict:
Natural Pacific Real Calendula Energy Toner is a very gentle toner that would suit all skin types, including those with active acne. I am loving how my skin feels after 4 weeks of using. Patting and spot treatment do help achieving a better result. Since I don’t suffer from any active or aggressive acne, I couldn’t pinpoint any significant changes in my skin appearance in terms of major redness. During some of my minor break-outs, the spots dried up and healed quite quickly with the surrounding skin area not being too inflamed. Will I repurchase the toner? Absolutely yes! I love how elegant it looks and feels on my skin. It provides ample hydration and makes a wonderful first treatment after cleansing.
