Environmental pollutant levels continue to rise and it’s sadly confirmed by the on-going occurrence of natural disasters, constant and extreme changes of temperatures around the globe. With modern pollution, a high number of toxic chemicals can’t be seen by the naked eye. These pollutants then produce free radicals that are scientifically proven to have harmful effects on the skin leading to accelerating physical ageing.

Algenist AA Barrier Serum

Algenist AA Barrier Serum contains a host of fantastic ingredients to help fortify our natural skin barrier and prevent atmospheric ageing.
The ingredients:
- 2 x Patented Alguronic acid: at its highest concentration; derived from naturally-sourced and sustainably-produced algae to help retain moisture, help to reduce the appearance of fine lines
- Phloretin: an antioxidant from green apple to protect and even out skin tone
- Niacinamide: boost skin barrier performance and reduce redness
- Ergothioneine: a broad-spectrum antioxidant from mushrooms that helps to neutralise ozone pollution
My experience
I have been using the serum for 2 weeks, once in the morning during the first week and twice daily the second week. You don’t have to increase the frequency gradually, just that I didn’t want to mix the serum with retinoid and acids at night.
As the serum contains several active ingredients that I look for in my skincare regimen, I can skip a few steps in my morning routine – perfect for the rushed mornings and lighter feel on my oily skin during the extremely hot weather we had here in the UK this summer. The serum absorbs quickly with a silky feel. There is an earthy scent with a touch of apple that doesn’t bother me.
My skin is loving the serum thus far. My complexion seems calmer, appears brighter and smoother. Also, I have started to use the serum after a laser peel and a micro-needling treatment, meaning my skin is more sensitive and I’m happy to say that I didn’t have any reaction to the serum.
Overall, I’m really happy to incorporate Algenist AA Barrier Serum into my routine. It’s always good to know that my natural skin barrier is strengthened and more resilient against environment aggressors. Perfect for a Londoner! You can find Algenist AA Barrier Serum at Space NK, Cult Beauty, John Lewis and other stockists.
How do you protect your skin from environmental pollution?
Much love always,
