Founded by LARS FREDRIKSSON in 2013, Verso’s mission is to simplify our daily skincare routine to be as easy as 1-2-3! With science as the starting point, Verso’s secret recipe is their Vitamin A complex Retinol 8 which is said to be eight times as effective as traditional retinol and half as irritative! A technology that has me very intrigued!
Verso, is named after the Latin for ‘reverse’, rather fitting for an anti-ageing skincare range! And yes, I am ready to reverse or mitigate any signs of sun damage, loss of firmness and uneven pigmentation!
What is Retinol 8?
As mentioned, what makes Verso an award-winning range is the inclusion of their unique Vitamin A derivative – Retinol 8 complex.
“By clinically testing different concentrations of Retinol 8 under the supervision of doctors from Karolinska University Hospital in the early 2010s, Verso founder Lars Fredriksson arrived at a formulation that proved to be eight times as effective and half as irritative as traditional Retinol.”
Retinol 8 is a stabilized Vitamin A complex, eight times more effective than standard Retinol which is known for its anti-ageing property by stimulating collagen production. So effectively, Verso products contain less amount of Vitamin A for the same efficacy. For the curiosity in me, I would love to know the concentrations of retinols in Verso products.
Most of Verso products, the patented Retinol 8 is combined with niacinamide and/or tumeric extracts. Niacinamide to brighten and increase luminosity. Tumeric is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, to protect skin and reduce any redness.
Simple, exquisite and rather clever packaging! I love that the steps are numbered for a fool-proof routine. The numbers are in reverse of course! I adore the clean typography of the brand.
The pumps on the Day Cream and Super Facial Serum dispense out a perfect amount for me to cover my whole face. The opaque packaging prevents any oxidation, which is great! (although it is slightly difficult to figure out when the bottle is nearly empty)
I started using Verso skincare back in March, although I have seen the benefits after 2-3 weeks of consistent use, I waited to complete 6 weeks of use before starting to write this post.
Day Cream | £95
The Day Cream contains Retinol 8, tumeric and niacinamide along with a sun filter for UV protection. The cream has a smooth texture and feels very hydrating. A little goes a long way thats for sure! It spreads out beautifully and absorbed quickly. My makeup glides on well too.
This would be the first day cream with Retinol that I have tested and I haven’t experienced any negative effects. In fact, I took it with me during my recent Vietnam trip back in March. My skin felt fine in the scorching heat of 38C, no burning sensations nor have I seen further development of any new sun damage. Of course I stayed out of direct sun light and applied sun protection of SPF 50+ regularly.
Super Facial Serum | £110
Verso Super Facial Serum is a healing and strengthening serum. The Serum contains the highest strength of Retinol 8 to maximise the anti-ageing effect. In addition to Retinol 8, Verso Super Facial Serum contains peptides that increase skin cell quality and renewal.
Let me tell you, this feels substantial! The texture of the serum is beautifully creamy. It layers on top of the Tumeric Booster elegantly. The serum is absorbed into my skin without leaving any greasy residue. My skincare feels very hydrated, smooth and supple. You can use Super Facial Serum under the Day Cream or Night Cream for a powerful kick of anti-ageing effect. On my oily skin, I would use this powerful serum on its own.
Each morning after use, my skin looked brightened and radiant with much improved texture. LOVE!
Antioxidant Tumeric Booster | £79
This is a light gel serum with a beautiful tumeric scent. I love that the serum contains two powerful antioxidants, turmeric and vitamin E. Both are known to protect the skin, combat free radicals and improve the capacity for hydration to result in a more youthful appearance.
I have been using the booster twice daily; applied after a vitamin C serum in the morning and prior to Verso Super Facial Serum at night. This lightweight gel serum leaves my skin smooth, bouncy and soft to the touch. It helps to calm my skin redness and works in synergy with other Verso products in my routine.
Lip Serum | £55
This is my first ever lip serum with Retinol! And I love it! The serum is a balm that spreads and melts on my lips beautifully. I did feel a huge different even after the very first use. At the time of writing this blogpost, I have religiously been using this lip serum once daily at night, followed by a moisturising lip mask, for almost 8 weeks. The result is astounding! I have fewer lip lines, smoother and more plumped lips. My cupid’s bow area appears lighter as I ensure I go over the area with the lip serum (I tend to miss this area out when applying facial cream). My lips do not get drier or flaky while using the lip serum.
You can routinely apply Verso Lip Serum twice daily in the morning and evening or you could also apply when required during the day too. I try to use a lip balm with SPF while I’m using the lip serum.
I have used various retinol serums as well as prescriptive Retinoid in the past, so you can say my skin is acclimated to their effects. I didn’t get any dry flakes or stinging with any of the Verso products I’ve tried. On the odd occasions when I layered the Super Facial Serum with the Day Creams I did get a few spots, this could be due to the combination being too moisturising for my oily skin.
Verso Skincare range is supposed to be compatible with sensitive skin. However, if you have not tried Retinols before, I would build up the tolerance slowly. And of course I can not emphasise enough the important of using sun protection.
Overall, I am extremely happy with my skin health after using these Verso products and have been recommending the range to friends and family. My skin texture and appearance have improved visibly. My complexion looks brighter and more even. My ultimate skincare goal is to be able to feel confident without the need of any foundation/base and I think Verso Skincare has able to do just that! Here’s to more “good skin days” and “better makeup days”!
Have you tried Verso Skincare? What ingredients do you look for when purchasing skincare products?
