I’m on a foundation kick right now, actually who am I kidding! I’m always on a foundation kick:) If you follow me here or on Instagram, you would know I have oily gal and most foundations don’t last that long on my skin. I’m always on a look out for a “perfect” base that would last foreverrr and control my oil factory without compromising on a flawless, skin-like finish.
YSL All Hours Foundation is getting all the raves right now. So as soon as it dropped on the counters, I was at one to get my shade matched! There are 22 shades available with neutral (B), pink (BR) and yellow (BD) undertones.

YSL official says:
YSL All Hours Liquid Foundation has you covered for endless nights: own the night and the day with a matte foundation for a flawless complexion, which stays put for up to 24 hours. A rich level of fine pigments means full coverage with a flawless, even finish, without a mask-like effect. The high coverage foundation’s innovative formula is waterproof and transfer-resistant, with no compromise on comfort and no need to touch up.
The oil-free formula gives a matte look throughout the day and helps to reduce the appearance of pores.
The YSL All Hours Liquid Matte Foundation formula is enriched with a skincare complex and UV filter leaving skin looking fresh and smooth. Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin. Dermatologically tested. Non-comedogenic. SPF 20.
As I am currently still slightly tanned from my holiday, I was debating between BD25 and BD30 knowing that YSL All Hours can oxidise. The lovely SA at Boots kindly gave me generous samples of both shades for me to try.
Eagerly, the very next day I applied YSL All Hours Foundation in shade BD30 and I was shooked. The finish was amazing! Personally I think YSL All Hours Foundation is medium to full coverage, it didn’t quite cover some recently unwelcome red and angry visitors on my face:) YSL All Hours Foundation has a thin, liquidy consistency with a faint scent of watermelon. It sets relatively fast but does allow you sufficient time to blend. YSL All Hours glides over my pores, smooths and blurs them out. No joke, the finish is out of this world! Matte but not flat, flawless, skin-like and very lightweight! I haven’t worn any foundation for 24 hours but I had YSL All Hours Foundation on for 16 hours long and I thought I still looked “ok” 🙂 however most of the foundation had broken down by then. I have been trying YSL All Hours Foundation for a few more days and I am extremely impressed with its ability to control my oiliness. I can easily go on for up to 7 hours before I’m shiny enough to warrant a blot or re-powder. This is a record for me! What’s even more amazing is that not much of the foundation would settle into my smile lines or any usual problematic crevices! This is another tell tale sign about how long lasting YSL All Hours Foundation is! It does stay put as claimed! Oh and I happened to go swimming on one of the days, had the lower half of my face in water then had to rush off to run some errands…luckily my makeup was still absolutely intact!
So after trying YSL All Hours Foundation and experiencing some sorts of magic it can perform, I was about to pull the trigger and order it…a bomb was dropped! Another blogger friend highlighted that the ingredients in YSL All Hours Foundation might not be the best. I immediately did some more research and found out that Denatured Alcohol was the third listed ingredient. Denatured Alcohol is known to strip away all the goodness in your skin and disrupt the PH balance of it over time. Consequences include dryness, erosion of the surface of skin (that’s really bad for skin), and a strain on how skin replenishes, renews, and rejuvenates itself. Ouch!:(
Now I hope you can feel my dilemma! It’s not everyday that I am impressed by a foundation to this magnitude. I must say I don’t always check ingredients on all cosmetic products I purchase. However, I have been focussing on my skin a little more in the last year or so and would hate to use a makeup item that would just erase my efforts.
At this moment in time, I will use the sample I was given for a little longer and decide what to do as I go along. Needless to say I adore that luxurious looking bottle that YSL All Hours Foundation is housed in and admittedly it plays an important factor in the decision-making process:) I probably will end up purchasing the foundation and use it on the odd days.
Let me know if you have tried YSL All Hours Foundation and how you have found it. What are your thoughts on drying alcohols in cosmetic products?
Thank you for being here today!
Much love always,
Sandyxo
Thank you for the honest review Sandy! I have very oily skin too, so I will take your advice from this post. It’s a shame it contains alcohol which can strip the skin, but I think most products including skincare too 🙁 Although it is best to avoid it. Have you tried the HG foundation sticks? They keep my oily face matte all day long. xxx

Thanks Annie for reading. I think if the drying alcohol is listed within the first 6 ingredients, the amount included is sufficient to cause damages to the skin. There are good alcohols too so I always double-check. I haven’t tried HG foundation stick, need to try that! I have heard La Mer new foundation is worth a shot too so will look to try that too. Have a glorious Friday!xo
This is absolutely fantastic and honest review Sandy,so appreciate it.I have seen a tutorial where is mentioned about the alcohol and that kind of put me off from purchasing, never would have crossed my mind reading the ingredients on the foundation 🙈.
my skin is dry so I really try to avoid alcohol and as soon as I saw the ingredient list I didn’t want to pick it up….shame because YSL foundations are usually great
Omg I’m glad I read this post! I just bought the foundation and I’m debating whether or not to return it or to keep it to use once in a while because of the packaging 😭

Oh my! Thank you for sharing with us!! I’ve heard such great things about this foundation and have been meaning to try it. I also have been focusing on my skin lately and I feel the same way as you – I’d hate to have this foundation ruin my efforts. Nothing feels as good as healthy skin so I’d hate to have this foundation ruin that! I too am heartbroken over this news 💔
Wow,i never knew that about denatured alcohol. Very impressed with this review.
