JAPONESQUE Champagne Collection: Hightlighter Trio and Velvet Touch Finishing Powder Sets Review

japanesquechampagnecollectionmain

Japonesque is a Japanese beauty company that was created over 25 years ago.  The focus and mission of the brand is to simply create beauty.  Japonesque is the brand that makeup artists and beauty professionals across the world rely on.  Japonesque draws inspirations from the makeup used in dramatic Japanese dance styles of the Kabuki theatre.  Many years ago, I was first introduced to Japonesque by Lisa Eldridge, watching a video about what was in her professional makeup kit, and as a result I purchased a few brushes from the brand soon after.

To celebrate Holiday 2016, Japonesque launches 2 luxury makeup sets called the Champagne Collection, a Highlighter Trio set and the Velvet Touch Finishing Powder and brush set.

Let’s pop the champagne!

The Highlighter Trio consists of three highlighters in silky micro-fine pearl powders. Each champagne gold compact comes with its own individual gift box so you could give them as gifts. The shades are:

  • Shade 01 (Champagne Gold) is golden champagne. It has the smoothest texture out of the three highlighters and gives the least shine.
  • Shade 02 (Rose Gold) is a rosy medium yellow with a hint of peach and gold shimmers.
  • Shade 03 (Bronze Gold) is a warm toned medium peach with gold and copper shimmers.

Each highlighter contains 0.167oz or 5g.

Here comes the line-up…

And here are the swatches taken indoors in natural light:

All three highlighters swatched beautifully.  The powder texture is a little dry to the touch but has excellent pigmentation and blendability.  They all give a beautiful sheen which is not metallic.  As they are pigmented they are not quite fool-proof highlighters.  You can easily over apply, leading to emphasising your pores and skin texture.  They all last over 6 hours on my oily skin.

The Velvet Touch Finishing Powder 10g/0.35oz) and brush set:

This set includes translucent Velvet Touch Finishing Powder 01 in a limited edition matte champagne gold compact with a matching limited edition silky soft powder brush.  The micro-fine powder is a universal shade that claims to blur the look of imperfections while leaving a velvety soft matte finish to every complexion.

The Velvet Touch Finishing Powder is odourless, extremely silky to the touch and you can definitely tell that the powder is ultra fine.  It gives a soft matte finish which does blur out my skin texture without caking or settling into fine lines.  I tested this by applying and reapplying the powder to my face over 10 times:)  Bearing in mind my skin is oily.  Velvet Touch Finishing Touch keeps my skin matte for around 6 hours (My standard everyday combination consists of Becca Ever-Matte primer and Estée Lauder Double Wear).  My skin feels so smooth after application!  Unfortunately, the powder leaves a white cast.  If you are darker than NC25ish, I think you would need a different shade from the range.

For the swatch of the Velvet Touch Finishing Powder below, I heavily built it up with thick layers.

The brush is incredibly soft.  It does an excellent job of picking up powder products and glides beautiful with sweeping motions.  It also applies powder to my under eye areas perfectly without feeling scratchy at all.  You can use it to apply Velvet Touch Finishing Powder all over or just spot applying with it.  This brush has a perfect shape to contour, to chisel your cheek bones or give yourself a fake nose job:)

Overall I love both the Highlighter Trio and The Velvet Touch Finishing Powder Sets.  They are definitely good quality products and priced very reasonably too, 3 highlighters for $34! I adore the matte gold and cute square compacts, very portable.  I recommend you to check out these sets at Ulta before they sell out.

Hope this was helpful.

Until next time beauties.

Much love always,

Sandyxo

The Highlighters look absolutely stunning. Love the packaging too. It’s such a shame we can’t get it in the UK. We’re missing out on so many great products.
