Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit Ai Beauty Clinic for a PicoSure Laser Treatment. Whilst there, I was looked after by an amazing team who made me feel totally welcomed and reassured. Depending on how my skin responds to the treatment, I might require several further sessions. For today, I’m thrilled to share my initial part of the experience.
About Ai Beauty Clinic
Located in Oxford Street, London, Ai Beauty is a CQC accredited and doctor-lead aesthetic clinic specialising in cosmetic injections and skincare treatment.
Ai Beauty Clinic has served over 10,000 clients from all around the world using the most advanced non-surgical treatments from the US and Europe. The clinic is able to provide bespoke treatment plans that aim to satisfy patient needs.
AI BEAUTY CLINIC introduced PicoSure® picosecond laser from the United States. PicoSure® is the world’s first and only picosecond aesthetic laser cleared by the FDA in Europe and the United States, CFDA in China for the safe and effective removal of tattoos and benign pigmented lesions, as well as acne scars, wrinkles and skin revitalisation treatments. Furthermore, clinical data shows better clearance in fewer treatments.
So what’s the difference between traditional laser and PicoSure laser I hear you ask?
Unlike traditional nanosecond lasers which predominately rely on photothermal action, delivering heat to the pigment and surrounding tissue, PicoSure takes advantage of PressureWave Technology to shatter the target ink into tiny particles that are easily eliminated by the body.
So PicoSure’s PressureWave™ technology uses a unique wavelength of light (755nm) and a specialised lens to convert laser energy into gentle pressure. This pressure then squeezes cells, activating the natural cell signalling processes that create new collagen and elastin without burning or damaging the skin.
Using highly targeted energy, PicoSure gently disrupts the particles responsible for a range of pigment conditions like freckles, sunspots, and other discolouration yet without the risks, pain or downtime.
Pretty amazing technology right! To find out more, please read this post.
Before the full treatment could go ahead, I had a one to one consultation with the laser practitioner at the clinic. In addition, I had VISIA images taken to provide an in-depth analysis of my facial characteristics aka my skin health and appearance. The result will help the practitioner identify the most effective treatments for me. The practitioner then explained how PicoSure works and what to expect during and after treatment along with the correct after-care. After that, a patch test was done on a small area on the left side of my face.
I had no adverse reaction after 48 hours and the next appointment was scheduled. On the day of my first session, I opted to have numbing cream applied 15-20 mins prior to the treatment.
The whole treatment didn’t take long at all. I didn’t feel much discomfort thanks to the numbing cream. On top of that, a cold air machine was used to ensure further comforts and it really helped lots.
As expected, my skin looked red immediately after treatment however without any burning sensation. Then, a thick layer of aloe vera gel was applied and left on for 10 minutes. Amazingly, the redness subsided pretty quickly in less than 24 hours, hardly any downtime! My skin looks smoother after a few days and no breakouts after the treatment. If you would like watch my full treatment, please refer to this post on my Instagram.
Below is an image taken just before the treatment ended. I left the photo completely unedited and trust me it looks worse than how I actually felt.
For your information, I have some old acne scars, sun spots and hyperpigmentation that I would like to alleviate with the PicoSure Laser Treatment. I’m amazed at how little the downtime was needed with no reaction at all. It has been just a little over two weeks since my first session and I’m happy thus far. My skin is progressively looking smoother, my pores and wrinkles appear softer. I’m aware that the full benefits would take 4-6 weeks to observe as well as further sessions would help.
I think this treatment would be suitable for people with sensitive skin too. I will have further update once I’ve completed the course so please watch this space!
